Restylane - An Injectable Solution to Wrinkles and Skin Folds
Restylane, the trade name for hyaluronic acid, is an FDA approved and effective treatment for wrinkles and age lines, or crow’s feet on the fact. Injected subdermally into the facial tissues, Restylane can remove forehead wrinkles and fill in age related hollow areas on the face and around the eyes, and also be used for lip augmentation. Of course, someone considering use of Restylane should consult a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist to determine if this treatment is right for them. But, most people who undergo Restylane treatments are pleased with the results.
Why Restylane is an injectable favorite
As a person grows older aging signs become noticeable, especially on the face. Wrinkles and folds make a person look older. With baby boomers all approaching the golden years, a generation that has always thought of itself as youthful now has to cope with outward signs of age, leading to the desire on the part of many people to beat the clock and look as young as they feel. With that in mind, using a treatment like Restylane is thought of by many people as just another part of the process of taking care of yourself. Restylane is transparent and fills in areas, making a smoother appearance.
Restylane is preferred by many people over traditional fillers used to remove wrinkles, such as fat and collagen. Restylane is a non-animal based gel, biodegradable and derived from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance our bodies naturally produce. Results tend to last longer than many other treatments, up to 12 months, and since it was approved by the FDA in 1996, Restylane has done nothing but gain in popularity. An added reason for the popularity of Restylane for wrinkle treatment is the fact that most people need only one treatment for an effect that can last from six to 12 months.
Restylane is not for everyone
Like any medical treatment there are some people who should not use Restylane. They include patients with severe allergies or a history of hypersensitive reactions to ingestion or injection of a drug or protein; those who have multiple severe allergies; or those with several allergies to bacterial proteins. Restylane should also not be used for breast augmentation, implantation into muscle, bone, ligament or tendon, or should not be used in implantation into blood vessels as that could restrict blood flow. But, for treating facial or nose area winkles, age lines or crow’s feet, many people put their trust in Restylane and have not been disappointed.
